Hill Harper
NASHVILLE (TSU News Service) – The Conversation will be the topic of discussion Wednesday, February 6 when Tennessee State University welcomes actor, activist and best selling author Hill Harper to campus.
The lecture is part of the Distinguished Lecture Series sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs and will take place in Kean Hall located in the Floyd Payne Campus Center beginning at 7 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public. A book signing will take place after the lecture.
During the lecture, Hill will discuss topics from his first book for adults, The Conversation: How Men and Women Can Build Loving, Trusting Relationships. Topics include the breakdown in the black family; the myth that there are no mature, single black male professionals; bridging the communication gap; and self-worth and net worth and why you should never settle for an unworthy partner.
Hill Harper, an accomplished film, television and stage actor, stars in the hit CBS drama series, CSI: NY. He also starred in the CBS series The Handler that earned him a 2004 Golden Satellite Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Harper has also been recognized by the NAACP Image Awards with a nomination as Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the CBS series, City of Angels.
As a television actor, Harper has had numerous guest starring roles. He has appeared in Showtime’s Soul Food and guest starred on HBO’s The Sopranos. He also starred in the CBS mini-series Mama Flora’s Family and the UPN Network comedy/drama Live Shot. Other guest appearances include: ER, NYPD Blue, Murder One, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Married…With Children. Harper has starred in more than 20 films including the independent film, Love, Sex and Eating the Bones, America Brown, Loving Jezebel, The Nephew, He Got Game, and Get on the Bus.
An accomplished author, Harper has penned several book including Letters to a Young Brother: MANifest Your Destiny, published in 2006; Letters to a Young Sister: DeFINE Your Destiny, published in 2008; and How Men and Women Can Build Loving, Trusting Relationships, published in 2010. His fourth book, The Wealth Cure: Putting Money in Its Place, was published in 2011.
Harper graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and graduated with a J.D. (cum laude) from Harvard Law School, as well as with a master’s in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government. He is a full-time member of Boston’s Black Folk’s Theater Company, one of the nation’s oldest and most respected African American traveling theater troupes.
