NASHVILLE (TSU News Service) – Tennessee State University will host the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools Counselors Training Day Thursday, July 26. The training takes place from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Farrell-Westbrook Complex.

More than 90 counselors are expected to attend the mandatory in-service training for all metro high-school guidance counselors.

Every year, MNPS meets with counselors to share the mission, vision and strategic goals of the school system and their role in accomplishing them, according to Dr. Nicole Cobb, Director of School Counseling Services. They also partner with higher education institutions such as TSU to help counselors prepare students for the next level of education after high school.

“Our work on Thursday will focus on continuing to build a college and career readiness culture for all of our students, said Cobb. “Our school counselors play an integral role in helping students achieve their goals.”

The district serves nearly 79,000 students with the goal of being the first choice for families in Nashville and Davidson County. The governing body for MNPS is the Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County Board of Public Education, a nine-member group elected by residents of Metropolitan Nashville.
